Isn’t it great to love your family. Being married to Allison and having these kids is the greatest blessing in my life. I am currently sitting in my room after working 36 hours straight. Last night was a hard but very interesting night on call. A broken leg, an appendicitis, a man coughing up so much blood I wanted to take a bath and get checked for TB immediately after examining him, an acute abdomen / kidney stone / pneumonia, and a seizure patient with history of a brain tumor. These challenges kept me up all night. My first patient of the morning was a young woman with cystic fibrosis who I had seen at the end of the previous day right before starting my call. She had an oxygen level of 70% after climbing the hill to our hospital. Low oxygen levels like that can give a doctor stress! I was busy! These days, despite the fun of the great challenge, can be tedious. Because of the sleep deprivation, normal patients are much less interesting and the cultural challenges can be more frustrating. So I am so glad at the end to come home to this group of people below. I thank God for all of them. The verse that is always in my mind these days is 2 Corinthians 12:9-10. “And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” I am learning everyday and relying on the promise that God works through our weakness. How crazy is it that God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness! We should have so much confidence with that promise!
