Strategy at Kijabe Mission Hospital

Last Friday we spent a day as the medical staff working out a strategic vision for how we wish that medical care will develop at the hospital. You may not be aware that we have an incredible amount of services available at Kijabe Mission Hospital. Family Medicine, General Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Neurosurgery, Pediatric Neurosurgery, Internal Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery, Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery, Pathology, Radiology, Anesthesiology, Neurology, Otorhinolaryngology, Palliative Care, etc. . . the list goes on and on, although I think I have covered most of the disciplines represented. There is a robust medical training program with nursing students, medical officers, clinical officers, and medical residents all being trained in the hospital. In fact my job at the hospital is as a consultant in different departments, specifically obstetrics and the family medicine / out-patient department. I spend time in clinical lecture development, answering questions, attending lectures, developing patient care protocols along with direct patient care. It is a good work at the hospital, but it takes time and thought to do it well. Last Friday was spent reviewing what had been planned 5 years ago, what had and had not been accomplished successfully to this point, and where we hoped to be in the next 5 years. It is good to be on a mission for success for the Kenyan healthcare. Pray for us as we work to do the best job we can for those who need it most.
