Authority Determined by God

Yes, I follow political figures on Instagram.

So I get a lot of propaganda. I think I am one of the few people in the world who likes (obviously from a distance) and tries to speak with respect toward both of these men. I definitely do not agree with everything either one of them has done, but I respect that they have been the President of our country without being scandalous. I am afraid that is not they way the next couple years will be. It is going to be a pretty sad election outcome no matter which direction it goes. I think I can like both Barak Obama and George Bush because my trust is in God. He is the one who is really in control, and nothing happens outside of his will. It reminds me of the following verse.

Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.

This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.  Romans 13:1-7

And this one too.

Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people. For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. Titus 3:1-3

So it is all under God’s control, and I am thankful for that. And so I will honor both of them, and I will work on honoring our next President as well as the President of Peru.
