I have been reading “Wind Sprints: Shorter Essays” by Joseph Epstein. It is a collection of short essays, perfect for reading when time is short. Sometimes after eating lunch, before calling in my first patient I will read one of his essays, and then fight off the temptation to read “just” one more. I recommend this clever, fun, relatively long book which really is just a bunch of short essays. A couple fun quotes follow.
“Life is the sum of habits disturbed by a few thoughts.”
(The only thing he disliked about the writing life, Peter De Vries used to say, was the paperwork.)
The world has, if not perhaps run out of patience, considerably shortened its attention span.
