Pray for Curahuasi

We need some prayer for our missionary community. Last week one of the young, single missionaries was raped while walking through town. This changes many things. We have always been able to tell people that it was safe here, and it did feel safe. It almost felt like there was a protective missionary bubble over all of us. It was never true, and now we know we have to have care. We can no longer say that it is completely safe. We told our kids about it, giving them more instructions about being out on the streets. During the day I do not think there is much danger, but at night it is never good for a woman to be out alone. Please pray for this young woman and pray for our single women missionaries.

We have always bragged about how our kids are free to roam through town. I still think we will let them have a lot of liberty during the day, but the girls especially have to be home by dusk. I am still thinking about what is best for the boys. Peter does not really go out much. He likes to be home. But David is out and about a lot. And we let him go to parties with his friends at night. I think we will continue to let him go. He is a 13 year old boy on a bike. And the truth is there is less risk for boys than girls. Still, pray that we will have wisdom, and that the mission will have wisdom.

  1. Praying now, for the victims heart to remain open to the people God called her to serve, and praying for wisdom over you and Allison as you guide your own children there. Jennifer kindle

  2. This must be so difficult, and I am so sorry to hear about this. I pray for spiritual, psychological and physical healing after this assault. I pray for the victim of this evil, for all the missionaries there, for you and for your children in this loss of innocence while you live among a people who no doubt overwhelmingly love and welcome you. We know God gives wisdom to those who ask and who loves beyond all measure. May the perpetrator repent and turn from this unspeakable evil. -Marty

  3. I am so sorry to hear this. We will pray especially for this young woman who has experienced such trauma. I know you all are a little “out of pocket” from American politics, but the Democratic National Convention began last night, with a female nominee for the first time. So much is being said about women finally finding opportunity and equality…Unfortunately, the first thing that came to my mind when I read your post this morning is that this issue of women being unsafe to walk alone where men can be safe(r) is a “glass ceiling” for women that will never be broken until Jesus comes again.
