I was listening to a sermon by Tim Keller, I think, and he made a statement to the effect that we are closer to other Christians in the world than we are to our own countrymen who are not Christians. That means I have more in common with my Quechuan acquaintances who attend my church but cannot speak Spanish, yet have faith in Jesus Christ, than I do with a non-Christian American who grew up in Edmond, Oklahoma and shares much of my same history. It is something for me to ponder as I go to church this morning and share communion with people I can barely speak with.
