Last week many schools in town had kite contests, so we started to see little homemade kites flying all around town. At our school’s competition, there were some pretty impressive kites made by ambitious parents. Our kids’ kites were made out of plastic bags and “kite paper” they sell at the stores here. We had fun making them, but only one out of four flew. It made us all want to go fly a kite, though, so we bought some in town and went back to the empty fields just above town. Traveling up the hill just a tiny bit affords some amazing views and lots of wind. When there are no crops on the fields, you have a perfect setting for cheap family fun on a weekend afternoon.
